Armed with Knowledge

I am a Democrat gun owner for almost ten years. I have a CCW permit from the state of FL and enjoy range shooting. I'm not a hunter as I am also an animal lover.
Recently I went on a search to join a group who were pro gun ownership. My first encounter which such a group was a conservative Republican group who initially accepted me or rather tolerated me. In just a matter of days of posting I sensed a " cold shoulder" type attitude from the group and a few who clearly wrote to me as their perceived obligatory duty perhaps with a small sense of conscience , realizing that their creed was to accept all IF I was pro gun and a gun owner. It was palpable of these few that they were going out of their way to be friendly and respectful. The majority never addressed me. It seemed to be in their DNA that as much as some tried the statements of bias against the left was transparent. With expressions including those LIBS, DEMS etc or naming actual lefties was found in some of their sentences as if it was so habitual they may not have even realized they were offending me and perhaps others. I tolerated it a few days and then made a statement I doubt they'll soon forget. Reminding them of their"preamble" and how the struggle was made from a spectrum of parties and as long as you were pro gun your political persuasion mattered not. But it did and it really seemed they couldn't help it. They required a scapegoat for their anger and for their purposes had to be a lefty.i would venture a guess that my experience was one of many incidents that had occurred across the board or country. There was absolutely no reasoning with them in the cliches like " unity will make us stronger to prevail, or the power of sheer numbers.
I am far from an elitist and feel I am as.much of the salt of the earth as them but my words were different and foreign to them , maybe not understandable. An unfortunate factor of gun owners who went a tad further in education then their right counterparts. I was not generally understood which was unfortunate. My conclusion was that if there's to be a lack of basic communication and comradely there can be no hope to link the struggle for a strong second amendment to come to fruition from a bi- partisan connection. We will see it through and they be a factor in success but never the twain shall meet

Hello everyone, I just wanted to put up a quick post to express my support. I have been voting Democratic since I started voting and side with them on most issues; gun control is not one of those issues.
I'm overwhelmed by the fact that the same party who stands up for
a woman's right to choose would so readily desire to remove my right to protect myself and my family.
I am a lawful gun owner and had to jump through hoops to get my permit, don't they realize the majority of those actually committing crimes don't obtain firearms lawfully? Hasn't Chicago taught them anything?
I don't understand how hindering the rights of law abiding, tax-paying citizens is supposed to curb gun violence when law abiding tax-paying citizens aren't the ones committing the crimes in the first place.

I posted here before but my postings never showed up on the site. I also never received an explanation or communication back. Now that there is a gun massacre in CT, I get an email from DFGO after a year of nothing happening here.

Should I bother with this site or not?

I am glad to find this group. As a determined liberal, I have a strong belief in individual firearms ownership. I am to the left of the current mainstream of the Democratic Party. Quite frankly, I can't afford to vote for the GOP.

Who are some good Minnesota DFL representatives that would help support a gun rights bill?

I was curious if anyone knows of any anti-tea party groups.

As "dogngun", I have been posting on MANY gun oriented sites for years. I have tried to insert some awareness that Democrats/liberals DO indeed own guns and do not support antigun legislation or "confiscation" as many on the right have been taught. This has led to my being asked to leave some sites, and twice after I posted such"blasphemies" my computer was attacked from outside to the point where I lost all my saved material and had to re-program it completely from scratch.

Lately, I see some glimmering of understanding on even the mos right wing gun forums that the left does indeed own and know how to use firearms and that we do advocate the right of self defense. I believe this is helpful and I urge anyone here who visits gun related sites to add even a little indicator of left or liberal or Democratic leanings perhaps in a signature line. It will help to spread the truth - that many liberals own and carry weapons to protect their lives and families and that this issue can no longer be used to split voters from Democratic/liberal causes.

FWIW, I have been voting Democratic since the mid 1960's and have been shooting since age 10 when I learned how in the Cub Scouts. I have had a PA State License to Carry a Firearm for over 15 years, and I carry one daily for protection and have guns to defend my home. I am a very liberal Democrat, far to the left of our President- some members of other gun forums have compared me toi Castro, Stalin and Mao. I am a Vietnam era vet of the 82nd Airborne Division and a retired PA state civil service worker in the mental health field.

Thank you for reading.

Democrats for Gun Ownership We believe in an individual’s right to keep and bear arms. We firmly believe it was the intent of our forefathers that these arms not only be suited for domestic utility and defense, but comprise sufficient means to assemble a militia capable of protecting a State from oppression.

Gun ownership is not a “public health issue.” The scientific integrity of epidemiological studies that treat gun ownership as a disease are, at best, skewed and biased. This is an intellectually dishonest argument that ostensibly makes the case that the right to keep and bear arms should be revoked because it is unhealthy. Exercising one’s rights, in the face of adversity or oppression, is often unhealthy, on an individual level.

Gun control is a divisive wedge issue that has been historically used to divide rural and urban voters.

We'd like to know what other Democrats think about this, a traditionally conservative stance...
